Zeljko Jovanovic
Zeljko Jovanovic is the Director of the Open Society Roma Initiatives Office. The Roma Initiatives Office team works with grantees and partners to support the voices and leadership of Roma in making their concerns matter for the politics and policies of the European Union and national and local governments.
Jovanovic comes from a family of Roma ethnic background which, through a belief in self-determination and education, moved from extreme poverty to the middle class.
Before joining the Open Society Foundations in 2006, Jovanovic worked for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Catholic Relief Services. He has also established and led a local Roma organization and community radio; mentored and trained Roma for strategic advocacy, leadership, and management; volunteered for a Roma political party and protested against the Milosevic regime.
Jovanovic has an academic background in law and completed the Harvard University Executive Education Program on Strategic Management for Leaders of Non-Governmental Organizations.
