Hailing from Guatemala City, Mario Penados earned a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University in 2004 with a focus on the International Political Economy. As an undergraduate, he worked at the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization where he developed his interest in the subject of the free movement of peoples, goods, and capital across borders. He moved to Washington D.C. after graduation to work at a political consulting firm during the 2004 presidential elections. Mario arrived in Romania in 2005 and worked at a business and law consulting firm. In the six years since joining Alpha Bank, he has taken a leading part in creating the framework for the distribution of investment and mandatory private pension funds. With these, he laid the groundwork of the Asset Management Department at Alpha Bank and building further on this foundation the Prime Banking business line. He enjoys cycling, squash, and hiking. He is interested in the subject of the increasingly interdependent world economy and its impact on society.
