Aspen Institute Romania and the League of Romanian Students Abroad organized on June 25, the "Strengthening Ties with the Diaspora and the External Partners" Conference. Speakers included Cristian David, Minister Delegate for Diaspora, MihneaCostoiu, Minister Delegate for higher education, scientific research and technological development, Adrian Curaj, Director General, Executive Unit for Financing Higher education, research, development and innovation; Irina Anghel, Secretary General at South Eastern European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, Andrei Stamatian, Prim-Vicepresedinte CEC Bank, MarinelBurduja, Consiliul de Administratie, Leumi Bank, Dan Bulucea, Country Manager, Google Romania, Andrei Caramitru (tbc), Managing Partner, McKinsey & Company Romania, and Aspen Fellows Andrei Pogonaru, Business Development Director, CEFS Romania and Mihai Danila, Investment Banking, Morgan Stanley.
The main topic of the conference focused on strengthening ties with Diaspora and external partners, a major thrust of the SMART Diaspora idea. This is a public policy proposal designed and submitted by the League of Romanian Students Abroad, which aims mainly at Romania becoming an attractive career destination for students and university graduates worldwide. The material is concentrating, through the recommendations, on promoting and facilitating these young people's return to Romania by supporting their integration in the public and private sector in the country.
